Responsibilities
- Programme Management and Operations
- Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of assigned programmes/projects, etc.; monitors and analyzes programme/project development and implementation; reviews relevant documents and reports; identifies problems and issues to be addressed and proposes corrective actions; liaises with relevant parties; identifies and tracks follow-up actions.
- Performs consulting assignments, in collaboration with the client, by planning facilitating workshops, through other interactive sessions and assisting in developing the action plan the client will use to manage the change.
- Researches, analyzes and presents information gathered from diverse sources.
- Assists in policy development, including the review and analysis of issues and trends, preparation of evaluations or other research activities and studies.
- Undertakes survey initiatives; designs data collection tools; reviews, analyzes and interprets responses, identifies problems/issues and prepares conclusions.
- Prepares various written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc.

- Collects and analyzes data to identify trends or patterns and provide insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting.

Education
- Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in urban planning, public policy / political science, environmental or climate change management, or a related field is required.
- A first-level university degree in combination with two (2) additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
- Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is desirable.
Work Experience
- A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in environmental policy development, environmental programme/project management, sustainable development or related area is required.
- Experience in designing and implementing urban environment, urban climate change or urban planning initiatives is required.
- Experience in handling complex organizational issues in an international organization is desirable.
- Experience implementing country-level or organizational climate change or environmental policies, guidelines and standards is desirable.
- Two (2) years or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.

Responsibilities
- Assist in the definition and implementation of the communication strategy of the Planning, Finance and Economy Section, such as:
- Support and contribute in the communication activities, events and materials.
- Identify, collate and prepare informative and promotional materials for diverse media, researching different sources of information as required.
- Assist with writing of news articles, newsletters, reports, articles, and concept notes.
- Support in the graphic design, photo and video editing of outreach, promotion and information material, such as publications, presentations, catalogues, brochures, videos, flyers, infographics and handbooks.
- Review and monitor communication channels and metrics associated with the projects and initiatives.
- Research best practices for communication and identify the media that fits the projects objectives and purpose.
- Participate in team meetings, prepare minutes and help to coordinate follow-up activities.
- Create surveys and assist in their analysis and translation of results into various communication media/applications.
- Assist and plan activities and events regarding all the projects and areas UN-Habitat works.
- Write, Review, post, update content and create artwork (if necessary) to post on the website;
- Create web stories and social media posts related to the projects in PFES to be published on the official UN-Habitat platforms;
- Liaise with UN-Habitat Advocacy, Outreach and Communication Unit to ensure relevant content from the PFES is disseminated at the UN-Habitat corporate website, social media platforms, etc;
- Support the compilation of a library of photos, videos and stories;

Qualifications/special skills
- Applicants must at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements:
- Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher),
- Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent),
- Have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent. Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office Suite).
- Have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter. Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
- Preferred areas of study: Communication, Graphic Design, Public Relations, Journalism, or Media studies , International development, or related field that is relevant for sustainable urban development.

- Building on its operational capacities and technical leadership, the Agency developed the most integrated approach to localizing the SDGs in the UN system, working on three levels:

- supporting national governments to develop SDG Localization Frameworks;
- and coordinating the SDG Cities Global Community and political engagement the main UN and intergovernmental fora. UN-Habitat's footprint on SDG localization exceeds 20 countries, working through the UN system and in cooperation with the main UN and international partners. Most recently, UN-Habitat has been mandated to lead the two key UN mechanisms on SDG Localization and local governments: the Local2030 Coalition and the UN Secretary General’s Advisory Group on Local and Regional Governments.
- Within UN-Habitat Head Quarters in Nairobi, under the Urban Practices Branch, the SDG Localization and Local Governments Team coordinates UN-Habitat’s work on SDG Localization and the corporate engagement with Local and Regional Governments. Reporting Line
- This post is located the Urban Practices Branch of UN-Habitat and specifically within its SDG localization and local governments team. The incumbent will be supervised by the Human Settlements Officer coordinating the work of the team, and under direct supervision of the Director of the Global Solutions Division.
- The expert will work in proximity to the other members of the team as well as other units, sections and offices across the Agency.
Qualifications/special skills
- University degree in Communications, International Relations, Development Studies or other relevant area is required.
- A minimum of two (2) years of relevant working experience on issues related to sustainable development, urban planning, local development and project management is required.
- Working experience on the Agenda 2030 and the local implementation of the SDGs will be highly valued.
- Professional experience in experience in the UN or a reputable international institution is highly desirable.
- Prior knowledge and experience with an international organization are required.
