The job requires full knowledge of upholstery as well as aspects of management since the holder will be responsible for a team. The ideal candidate will also be required to support other departments in the company.

● Ability to fit, adjust or replace webbing, padding, or springs - Essential
● Ability to build furniture up with loose fiber stuffing, cotton, felt, or foam padding s –Essential
● Cutting, stapling and template-making knowledge - Essential
● Measuring, cutting and operating sewing machines or sew upholstery by hand to seam cushions and join various sections of covering material -Essential
● Knowledge of deep buttoning and other traditional techniques – Essential
● Ability to read work orders, and apply knowledge and experience with materials to determine types and amounts of materials required to cover work pieces – Essential
● Ability to examine furniture frames, upholstery, springs, webbing and locate defects - Essential
● Framework and polishing - Beneficial
● Good understanding of Health and Safety
● Ability to work fast and under pressure to meet production demands
● Guide and supervise the activities of junior or trainee upholsterers
● A keen eye for detail and accuracy in all work with the ability to produce good quality work.

● Flexible approach to working time to meet deadlines/peak workloads
● Liaise regularly with other departments (including the Joinery Workshop and Sales team) to ensure work is completed on time and to customer requirements.
● Monitoring usage of machines and tools and requesting any repairs and maintenance needed

Education
● At least KCSE certificate but KCPE can be considered.
● Polytechnic training in upholstery/tailoring
● Apprenticeship training
