- Background
Power Plus Foundation (PPF) is implementing a project aimed at reducing mental health stigma among youth aged 10-20 in public secondary schools in Kahama Municipal Council. The project integrates mental health education into football coaching sessions to foster awareness, resilience, and positive care-seeking behaviors. Through 180 coaching sessions, 20 community events, and digital campaigns, the initiative seeks to challenge harmful cultural beliefs and enhance mental health literacy among youth, teachers, and caregivers.
To measure the project’s impact and establish benchmarks for progress, PPF seeks to conduct a baseline survey to assess existing attitudes, literacy, and utilization of mental health services among the target population.
- Objectives of the Baseline Survey
The baseline survey aims to:
- Assess the current level of stigma-related attitudes and beliefs regarding mental health among youth, teachers, and community members.
- Measure the existing level of mental health literacy among youth and key stakeholders.
- Determine the baseline rate of youth utilizing mental health support services.
- Scope of Work
The selected consultant/firm will be responsible for:
- Developing a comprehensive methodology and tools for assessment. • Conducting data collection across four selected secondary schools in Kahama Municipal Council.
- Engaging with at least 500 youth, teachers, and community members. • Analyzing data to establish baseline indicators related to stigma, literacy, and service utilization.
- Compiling a detailed report with key findings, conclusions, and recommendations for project implementation.
- Deliverables
The consultant/firm is expected to deliver:
- Inception Report: Including survey methodology, tools, and work plan. 2. Data Collection Tools: Validated instruments for surveys and interviews. 3. Draft Baseline Report: Preliminary findings for review and feedback. 4. Final Baseline Report: A comprehensive document incorporating feedback, including analysis, findings, and recommendations.
- Presentation of Findings: A summary presentation to PPF and key stakeholders.
- Required Expertise & Qualifications
- Proven experience in conducting baseline studies, particularly in health or social behavior change projects.
- Strong understanding of mental health, stigma reduction, and youth-focused interventions.
- Demonstrated expertise in qualitative and quantitative research methods. • Experience working in Tanzania, or similar contexts.
- Ability to analyze data and produce clear, actionable reports.
- Excellent written and spoken English skills required, including demonstrated ability in writing reports.
- Timeline
The baseline study is expected to be conducted within four weeks from the date of contract signing.
