Background:
Norwegian Church Aid (NCA) is a diaconal organization mandated by churches and Christian organizations in Norway to work with people around the world to eradicate poverty and injustice. In Tanzania, NCA works mainly with Faith-Based Organizations to uphold human dignity, promote human rights, and accompany poor and marginalized communities in their struggles for economic and social justice. NCA implements programs that are aligned with its global strategy, people’s needs in Tanzania, and the Government of Tanzania’s development policies. NCA’s focus areas include:
Strengthening interfaith civil society and building social cohesion
Climate-smart economic empowerment to improve agricultural production in a changing climate and increasing market access
Promoting gender justice
NCA is Core Humanitarian Standard certified.
NCA is seeking a committed, innovative, and result-oriented Programme Assistant to work on the project “Championing Interfaith Approaches for Women and Youth Empowerment for Peaceful Co-existence along the Swahili Coast of Tanzania in Pemba,” until December 2026.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for implementing and following up on day-to-day peacebuilding initiatives through established peace structures in Pemba, including girls’ clubs, community writers, interfaith committees, and women and youth economic empowerment groups.
Organize capacity-building training/sessions according to the project plan and timeline.
Function as a resource person to improve planning and implementation of the project in the community.
Facilitate programme integration, enabling cross-learning between economic empowerment and peacebuilding program components for holistic project delivery.
Manage and maintain good working relations with local government authorities and other stakeholders in the community.
Provide continuous support to project-targeted groups for learning and sustainability of the interventions.
Document project impact and progress for communication and visibility for development partners, government, and other stakeholders.
Support reporting of the project’s implemented interventions.
Qualifications and Working Experience:
Tanzanian national with a Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Community Development, Peacebuilding Studies, Inter-Cultural Relations, or Social Sciences from a recognized institution.
Proven relevant experience with peacebuilding projects.
Good writing and communication skills.
Ability to facilitate learning processes.
Ability to learn fast and adapt to changes easily.
Ability to deliver results in a timely manner under minimal supervision.
Positive, collaborative team player, open and flexible to the changing environment.
Personal Qualities:
Energetic and enterprising.
Team player with good collaboration skills.
Good people skills, including relationship-building with the community and various stakeholders.
Remuneration:
NCA standard compensation package will apply to the successful candidate.
