The key purpose of this role is to maintain and improve all control and automation related equipment and systems, focusing mainly on field instrumentation and networks with an understanding of manufacturing execution systems.
Key outputs and responsibilities:
Maintain safe healthy and risk-free working environment
- Comply with safety, health and environmental procedures and legislation
- Maintain safety and housekeeping standards
Maintain, calibrate, repair equipment and optimise plant and associated devices:
- Locate plant, equipment, spares and relevant documentation / systems
- Plan and prepare the job
- Carry out repairs / maintenance
- Continuously improve (optimise) plant, process equipment and systems
- Operate plant and process equipment
- Calibrate instruments
- Perform basic changes to software in PLC’s with necessary approvals
- Supports the scoping of projects and upgrades to plant and process
Apply problem solving processes
- Utilise loss & waste and short interval control to identify problems
- Apply problem solving techniques to resolve situational problems
Apply the VPO principles and practices:
- Apply 5S standards and practices in the workplace
- Operate and control the process according to SOP’s
- Participate in and coach autonomous operations
- Support quality at source
- Improve personal competence and flexibility
Minimum Requirements:
- Min – N6 and Trade Test qualification in Electrical Engineering L/C
- Training: 3 years instrumentation equipment maintenance and PLC experience as well as excellent fault finding capabilities
- Experience with Instrumentation, Concept, Siemens, Rockwell, RSBatch, InTouch, Fieldbus Networks (Asi, Profibus, Ethernet) and InSQL. Calibration of instruments.
- Knowledge of OHS act.
- Analytical ability and attention to detail
- Display initiative and ability to interact and influence at all levels of the organisation, within a team environment and with suppliers
- Motivated self starter with high energy levels
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Team player
Desirable but not essential:
- Certified Instrumentation Technician
- 5 years experience in FMCG environment (processing)
