    The intern will:

    • National Urban Policy (NUP)
    • Contribute to the review of introductory materials of the PLGS portfolio and research on contemporary topics related to National Urban Policy in the context of sustainable urbanization and the implementation of the New Urban Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals. • Assist on the analysis and presentation of the data and information gathered from diverse sources in reports, tools, and normative products among others.
    • Copy-edit and finalize project reports, tools, frameworks and other deliverables
    • Produce a personal project that aligns with the goals and objectives of the Section, contributing to the overall mission of advancing knowledge and understanding in National urban Policy (NUP), Urban Rural Linkages, Metropolitan Development and corridor development.
    • Review and produce summaries on existing courses to support National Urban Policy workstream’s effort to produce training packages ;
    • Assist in translation and review of background documents, concept notes among others from English to French and French to English as appropriate.
    • Urban-Rural Linkages (URL) and Metropolitan Development
    • Contribute to the review and production of summaries on existing courses to support the Section’s effort to produce training packages on urban-rural linkages.
    • Assist reviewing the introductory materials of URL workstream and research on contemporary topics related to the same in the context of sustainable urbanization and the implementation of the New Urban Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals.
    • Organize expert group meetings, consultative sessions, conferences, and other events, support outreach activities, and promote knowledge-sharing within the Urban Rural Linkages (URL) community.
    • Undertake any other duties as may be required to ensure the Section's effective functioning and the successful implementation of its initiatives.

    Qualifications/special skills

    Duties may include the below tasks, but are not limited to:

    • Support the planning, design and implementation of capacity building projects and programmes at global, regional and country levels.
    • Research assistance: Assist in conducting literature reviews, data collection, and analysis for ongoing research projects and workstream; Aid in the development, distribution, and analysis of internal UN-Habitat surveys in a variety of focuses, such as capacity building, university partnerships, and capacity building support needs assessments.
    • Writing and editing: Assist in drafting and editing technical papers, reports, background documents, concept notes, and presentations. This includes facilitation of work with university and academia network as well as other research conducted by CDTU.
    • Instructional design: Support in designing and implementing training products such as e-learning courses, applying instructional design principles for impactful learning
    • Graphic design and video making: assist the unit with graphic design-related products including design of presentation template, infographic, webinar banner; planning, reviewing and coordination of the making of Global Urban Lecture videos.
    • Project assistance: Provide support in planning, tracking, and reporting on project activities, ensuring deadlines and objectives are met; Assist in coordinating and communicating with stakeholders, including scheduling events/meetings and preparing meeting agendas and minutes; Support to maintain projects documentation, plans, and reports.

    The intern will:

    • Communication and Information Technology
    • Contribute to written outputs e.g. draft background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies and inputs to publications.
    • Assist with outreach activities which include the production of awareness materials to support the rolling out of the PLGS work plan,
    • Assist with the production of communication materials: online versions of publications, updating the Section’s website and App Content Management System (CMS) with creating webstories, and providing improvements to the E-Learning tools available through creation of short explainer videos.
    • Assist in improving the National Urban Policy database. Assist in cleaning code and test various functionalities like the PDF summary generator from the database. Experience with PHP (Laravel, Drupal, WordPress) and JavaScript frameworks (Vue and React).
    • Assist to debug code and create wireframes using Figma, for user testing. 
    • Assist in the development of the PLGS app. Experience in React Native.
    • Assist in the development of the Urban-Rural Linkages database.
    • Assist with Graphic design: layout of publications, reports, short articles, short meeting minutes, presentations, social media cards. Experience required in Adobe Suite tools: InDesign, Premier Pro, Illustrator and Photoshop.
    • Improve our online presence in terms of publication outreach through the creation of engaging short videos, and explainer videos. Assist in social media maintenance and regular posting.
    •  Assist in creative ideas of outreach of our publications, by exploring how audio books could be made effective within the section publications catalogue.
    • Administration and Finance
    • Assist with liaising with different offices regarding individual communications requests and provide assistance with the review and publication of communication material (including. articles, broadcasts).
    • Attend meetings with UN counterparts and coordinate follow-up to decisions within the section, as appropriate.
    • Assist in preparing presentation materials including graphs, charts, excel tables and PowerPoint slides.
    • Assist in organizing expert group meetings, consultative and other meetings and conferences, support outreach activities.
