  • Background Information

Rikolto in collaboration with Simusolar are implementing a three-year project through funding from the Belgian government (Flemish Government, G-STIC CAP Program) which started on February 1, 2023 to June 30, 2026. The project dubbed “Kilimo Stahimilivu” aims to demonstrate and scale up the use of integrated solar-powered drip irrigation systems in the Northern and Southern Highlands of Tanzania to strengthen smallholder vegetable and fruits farmers resilience to increasing erratic weather patterns and protect and conserve water sources.

The main beneficiaries of this project are about 9,000 farmers in the regions of Arusha, Kilimanjaro, Mbeya and Songwe. The farmers will learn through atleast 40 demo farmers to demonstrate the use of integrated solar powered pump and drip irrigation systems that use solar energy. Starting January 2024, the project expanded its geographical areas to six more regions including Iringa, Njombe, Manyara, Tanga, Morogoro and Dodoma.

Rikolto would like to engage two input suppliers – one in the Northern Tanzania and one in Southern Tanzania to supply agricultural inputs and provide related technical know-how for atleast 40 demonstration plots.

  • Objective of the consultancy

The overall objective of recruiting these two consultants is to supply horticultural inputs and provide related technical know-how to establishment of demonstration plots. Furthermore, these objective of establishing these plots is to demonstrate technical and economic efficiencies of integrated solar powered irrigation drip systems – which are already purchased and installed by selected farmer(s) in Arusha, Kilimanjaro, Mbeya and Songwe region.

  • Methodology

Consultant to propose the methodology of implementing the assignment in the four regions.

  • Scope of Work

Expected deliverable is atleast 40 farmers are supplied with inputs and technical know-how for establishing demonstration plots. This can also be extended to supply of agricultural inputs during exhibitions such as Nane Nane exhibition etc.

  • Qualifications and experience
  1. At least BSc in Agronomy, Horticulture or General Agriculture from reputable institution.
  2. Must be registered with related registration government bodies eg: company, agro-dealer, agro-shop, Village Based Advisor etc.
  3. Must be government compliant eg: EFD receipt etc.
  4. At least 3 years of experience of supplying agricultural inputs and technical know-how as a to rural farmers in Arusha, Kilimanjaro, Mbeya or Songwe regions.
  5. An affinity with the objectives and methodology of the Kilimo Stahimilivu project.
  6. Ability to work independently.
  • Budget

The proposed budget should be well delineated and rational, including estimates for agricultural inputs required and related field operational costs such as technician, hire vehicle etc. The proposed budget in Tanzanian Shillings will form the basis for the negotiation of the final budget which will form part of the agreement.

  • Duration of the assignment

This assignment will be implemented via demonstration plots based to developed and agreed workplan in Arusha, Kilimanjaro, Mbeya and Songwe regions before 31st January 2026.
