Position Title: Project Executant for IKI FLR Hub

Project Title: The Forest Landscape Restoration (FLR) Implementation Hub: Delivering the Bonn Challenge

Reporting Line: WWF Tanzania Forest Programme Coordinator

Workstation/Location: Tanga (Korogwe, Mkinga districts), Dodoma (Mpwapwa and Chamwino districts)

International Executing Agency: WWF Germany

Implementing Partners: IUCN – Tanzania, WRI

Background

The IKI Forest and Landscape Restoration (FLR) Hub aims to support the implementation of carbon-intensive forest landscape restoration strategies to help achieve national climate and development targets. This project is in response to global restoration initiatives like the Bonn Challenge, AFR100 in Africa, and Initiative 20×20 in Latin America, which aim to restore 350 million hectares of degraded lands by 2030, sequestering up to 1.7 Gt of CO2 equivalent annually. The initiative will generate US$ 170 billion in environmental benefits, including watershed protection, improved crop yields, forest products, and biodiversity conservation.

The project will contribute to sustainable development by generating green jobs and supporting resilient livelihoods, particularly for marginalized and vulnerable groups. The FLR Hub will operate in six countries: Brazil, Colombia, Madagascar, Peru, Tanzania, and Uganda, targeting priority landscapes in each country. These landscapes have been selected based on their suitability for FLR and the ability to leverage favorable conditions to accelerate and upscale FLR efforts.

The FLR initiative will focus on reversing forest degradation and deforestation while ensuring sustainable livelihoods. However, barriers such as insufficient coordination, lack of harmonized policies, and capacity gaps must be overcome to facilitate success. The priority landscapes in Tanzania are the Northern Zone (Korogwe and Kilindi districts) and the Central Zone (Chamwino and Mpwapwa districts), which face various environmental threats, including settlement encroachment and illegal activities.

Major Functions

Under the supervision of the Forest Programme Coordinator, the Project Executant will coordinate the efforts of implementing partners and government focal points. The role involves developing, implementing, and enhancing action plans, securing political support, and improving access to funding through a multi-stakeholder engagement process.
